Cobb and Co Nine mile campground Review | The Camp Oven Cook

When Nick and I were known as the Cast Iron Boys, In 2013 we went to Cobb and Co Nine Mile Campgrounds to write an article about our visit for the “What’s Up Downunder magazine“. We used to write an article that included a tasty camp oven recipe.

For us, it was quite fitting as they used to have a giant camp oven out at the front gate.

And after coming here 10+ years ago with Nick, I knew one day I had to bring the family along as this place has got that family campground vibe. Read the article here

Cobb and Co is currently owned by husband and wife, Sean and Katherine O’Halloran, they have recently listed Cobb and Co Camping for sale for offers of over 5 Million. So it will be interesting what the new owners will do with the place. The O’Hallorans bush style campground offers spacious unpowered sites spread out over fifty lush acres as well as luxury canvas cabins and wagons for those who don’t want to set up and pack up.

It’s a 3hour drive for us, from the gold coast, we came here for 4 nights over Easter, and the kids absolutely loved it, especially the billabong, as they spent the majority of each day swimming.

The park itself is a good place to come, it’s spread out enough that you don’t need to camp on top of each other, they tell you when checking in to keep a good distance away from each other unless you know them.

however, on the second day, we had two families camping together that decided to camp right behind us, not sure why there was so much empty space that they really didn’t need to camp right next to us, lucky for us they were nice.

There have been so many additions since I was here last, everywhere I look there are toilet blocks, accommodation options, playgrounds, a shower block and a brand new Reception area.

Before coming here with the family, I did read so many bad things about this place on various review websites, people complained about the amount of rules, especially the 9 pm noise curfew. others complained about the lack of Maintenance, stating that mabe the owners have lost their passion that drove them in the onset of creating their dream campground.

I have nothing bad to say about the place, these little things shouldn’t get in the way of having a good time with the family and making lifelong memories. Get out there and visit at least once it’s definitely worth the visit.

Our camping style

While we used to have a camper trailer, it used to take a while to set up, so now that the kids are older we have simplified our camp set up, we now use an enclosed box trailer kitchen i built, and two double swags and a gazebo for cover from the elements.

Our BBQ Cooking Style

For our standard hot camping meals, we cook things like Bacon and eggs, pancakes, snags, steaks and chops, and cant forget things like pasta, stews and cherios, oh and cant forget neading hot water for coffee and washing up.

So for this we use the camp chef explorer 14 two burner stove with hotplate attachment, its very versatile for all the things we like to cook, and is portable in the carry bag.

Camp Fire Cooking Style

The one thing we love doing is camp oven cooking, especially my 11 year old, while at cobb and co, we used our Camp Chef camp ovens for Beef stew and dampers over the camp fire, and we also used the pots on the Explorer 14 stove for boiling water for cherios, mash potatoes, pasta and two minute noodles.
