A cast iron camp oven is one of the most versatile pieces of camp cooking equipment you can own, they are perfect for, frying, baking, roasting and more!
Basically, if you can cook it at home, you can make it in a camp oven, while it takes a little practice to get good at cooking in a camp oven over coals or heat beads, the entire process is a lot of fun.

Camp oven recipes for beginners

Simple Damper Recipe
For me the perfect recipe is a Damper, it has only got three basic ingredients, Self Raising Flour, a pinch of salt and a little bit of water, so it is relatively cheap if you burn it.
All you need to do is combine the ingredients in a bowl until combined, and place the damper in the bottom of a camp oven, pop on the lid and cook with some heat on the top and bottom.

Easy Camp Oven Roast Chicken
I love how easy it is to cook aroast chicken in a camp oven, it doesn’t have to be difficult, keep the flavours simple I like seasoning mine with butter and herbs.
All you need to do is to pop your seasoned chicken in the bottom of the camp oven, pop on the lid and cook with some heat on the top and bottom, and later on pop in some vegetables.

Campfire Beef Stew
Do you know what goes great with a damper? Beef Stew! all you need is some meat, basic vegetables, like potatoes, carrots, onions some water and seasoning.
Stews only require bottom heat under the bottom of the camp oven, to allow them to simmer away for a few hours till the meat is tender.
