I often see people asking how to clean a rusty OzpigJust like cooking a chicken, there are so many ways you can do it. Below we cover three main ways using a grinder, sandblaster and Molasses.

Safety: it is crucial to wear appropriate safety gear and to be competent working with power tools, this instructional assumes you have some experience working with power tools, painting with a spray can and is only outlining the steps involved in Cleaning and repainting a rusty Ozpig using hand tools.

Step 1. Tools you need!

Today we are using a wire brush on the grinder. However, you can also use the molasses or sand blasting method.

Step 4. Seasoning the cooking plates

Its time to season the cooking plates, to do this cover the plates all over with a light coat of cooking oil. Once covered with this thin layer of oil, heat the plate until it smokes, then remove it from the heat and wipe off excess oil with paper towel. Repeat this step 2 or 3 times. This can be done on top of the Ozpig, Hooded BBQ or in the home oven.
